Telling us what we’re doing wrong is all fine and dandy, but offering some specific ways to combat the problem would be more helpful. Personally, I’d also feel less like I’ve been slapped on the wrist and more like I’ve been turned in the right direction.

This is absolutely right. As a natural procrastinator myself, I’ve had to work hard to overcome my naturally tendencies. You don’t want to be known as the person that always just squeaks or who turns in sloppy work. That kind of reputation can be death to your career.
