Happy New Year FWJ Crew!
This is a going to be a great year. Think about what you accomplished last year and now think about which areas you can work to become stronger. Start off this year of your writing career with questions:
- How’s your source list?
- When is the last time you checked for new local publications or new publications in your niche?
- What’s the latest news and events for your industry?
- Who’s the new it girl or guy in your field and what are they doing that you’re not?
- Are you a grammar goof? What’s stopping you from becoming less goofy?
- When’s the last time you checked in with your editor? Especially when there isn’t a problem?
I’ve written before about asking the tough questions when it comes to moving further in your career or improving your writing. The new year can act as that extra ceremonial push to move yourself and your career along.
All of this new year stock taking may have some writers looking extra hard to find something they need to improve. Before you start criticizing your sock drawer’s affects on your writing career, realize right now you’re golden. Writers fall into seasons in which what they are doing is working out fabulously and where they’re going is where they want to be – no problems there! Enjoy it, and keep your momentum.
