Worst. Client. Ever.

We’ve all had those incredibly picky clients, right? I warned you before that I’d be whining about my guy in Arkansas who seems to think I should just be able to read his mind when I work on his projects. I tried to “fire” him one time, saying (very cleverly, I thought) that we seem to have different communication styles and that I really wanted his project to turn out well, so maybe a different writer might be in order. I will admit that this is after I had already cried, kicked, and screamed in my office two separate times over his projects.

No dice. Because I’m just such a nice person (or a “sucker,” if you prefer), I gave in to his wheedling and begging and did actually finish the project. Of course, he was thrilled with the final results and thought I was just the best thing since sliced bread.

I just had another conversation with Mr. Arkansas yesterday. You know your insecurities have made an impression when your client is saying things like, “I knew you could do it!” I felt a bit like a grade schooler who, after always being picked last for sports, just made her first ever soccer goal. Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t worried that I could do it, I was more concerned that I might end up crawling down the phone line and throttling him before the project was concluded.

I recently came across an email online that makes me all of a sudden feel like Mr. Arkansas is a dream! Can you imagine working for this lady? (Seriously, follow that link. It’s the funniest thing you’ll read all day.)

This brings me to my final point. I’d love to hear about your worst-ever client experiences. Email them to me at lornadoone (at) berrybrewer (dot) com, and I’ll pick some of the best to share here. Don’t worry, I’ll strip out any information that might reveal the guilty party! Come on, hit me with your horror stories of deadlines, revisions, and communication breakdowns.

  1. I loved her phrase, “regulation size casserole.” What the heck is a regulation size casserole anyhow? Thanks for the Wednesday laugh!

Re the link: Married or not, I reserve the right to call dibs on bringing pickles and buns for family get-togethers.

How about just clients that don’t pay?
It’s been over a year for an interview that I’ve done for SheKnows.com, and NOTHING. Still haggling over a less-than-$100 gig.
I’m posting here so other writers are aware. I’m soooo disappointed with this company.
I even have a contract, but they just “forgot payment” for 13 months?
And yes, I’m STILL waiting for the check…

This is the WORST client I ever encountered, specially mentioned Myrna Hallare, and the rest of her alliance, and the company Sybase Solution Philippines check their site http://www.sybase.com.ph and http://www.techwave.com.ph, they ask for a quotation and agreed on the contract but demand much as what services should be given, and never pay after the down payment. and enroll for 1 year contract and terminate the account because of a personal reason, without business reason at all… they are so Damn Good!! they are Devil without a horn walking around us… SHAME ON YOU!!!
