“Would You Like to Play a Game?”

First of all, I’ll give a big shoutout to whomever can answer the question in the title by telling me the name of the game it alludes to.

My plan since taking over has been to play some word games here on the Other Stuff blog. Theoretically, those of us reading it are writers, after all, and who likes a good word game more than we snobs? Plus, there’s the added incentive of competition, excitement, and possible recognition as a smarty-pants. What’s not to love?

I promise that this is something I planned to do long before Deb announced that she was trying to build community by holding a comments contest. Really. Truly. I even had planned to start it on October first…no joke. But, now of course, I just look like I had to come up with some hair-brained scheme to try and get people to like me enough to comment on my blog. Oh well.

Some of the games will allow for more than one correct answer, and others will require one answer to build upon others left in the comments section, so you may want to subscribe to comments to keep up, if you’re really serious about playing. For now, there won’t be any prizes other than the adulation of your peers, but we’ll see if we can’t rig something up for later if it goes well.

I’ll get this posted, and then I’ll start us off with our first game.

(Ooh, and I’d like to add that if anyone has suggestions for word games that will work well in this format, I am ALL EARS – lornadoone at berrybrewer dot com.)

    Umm…Global Thermonuclear War?

Well, it’s a little anti-climatic to have the blog network owner win my first comment contest, but…YOU’RE RIGHT! I haven’t seen that movie in years, and now I want to go rent it. But only if I can get it on Betamax.

  3. Deborah Ng says:

Actually, I think the quote is “Shall we play a game?” But I’m really going to date myself and say I saw that movie in the theater when it first came out. (Oh Mike Springer…you were more interested in the movie than me.)

Awww, it appears I got here just moments too late! I was going to answer that it was from the movie “WarGames,” and that the game was Global Thermonuclear War. I grew up watching that movie — great quote!

  5. Julia Temlyn says:

    Deb’s right. :) It’s actually “Shall we play a game?” Here’s a link to that clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecPeSmF_ikc
