The CEO of a major company contacted me through Linked In and asked for a proposal for new work. He had been reading my posts on Linked In and Twitter for several months and liked what he saw. Don't give up on social media. I don't have the work yet, but the proposal is in his hands, and I would never have met this person or known about the work had it not been for social media.

Twitter's been amazing for my site, Self-Publishing Review. On a consistent day-to-day basis, it brings in the most traffic, and I've networked with some writers that's leading to bigger and better things. Also got an L.A. Times blog mention based on something listed on Twitter.

Thanks for the great list!

I think FWJ joining Twitter is a great idea. I didn't know these leads were posted until I saw it on my Twitter feed (since you can only see the last two posts per category on the FWJ home page). Thanks again!!!

I recently got three different jobs through a contact on StumbleUpon. We were sending each other pages, discovered that we were both writers . . . I interviewed her for my blog and the next thing I knew, she had a job for me and a couple of friends who needed a writer, as well! Social networking is definitely a good way to go.

I also recently signed up for a twitter for my blog. Within 48 hours I had a comment and was being followed by an author who's book I had reviewed on the blog. It was a total affirmation for the decision to sign up for twitter. Even if I wasn't meeting people and really enjoying a new level of on-line community I would probably have given twitter a full six months on that one interaction alone!

Nice list again, thanks!

I try to use social networking strategies on a limited basis. Blogging has worked out great for me over the past 5-6 years and is an excellent partner with my writing goals and projects. While I have found value in Twitter and the many bookmarking sites, sometimes I wonder if the time it takes to remain active on them pays off more than it would to use that time to better my blogs or send off another couple of queries. Plus, for me anyway, there is a huge chance of becoming distracted when doing all that twittering about, and pretty soon I wonder where the last hour went.

Hey Deb, thanks for the list!

Just a note, all three of the Austin location jobs are the same one. They just posted in different venues.

Have a great Monday all!
