    Hi Deb,
Thanks for the early morning leads–a great way to start the day!

  2. Victoria says:

I love hearing other people’s success stories! My first ever paid job came from this site and since then two of my biggest clients. Thanks Deb for all that you do to help us.

  3. Phil says:

    FYI

No. 4 under journalism jobs is St. Charles, not lake charles — three months as a DJ in that town drove me into print forever nearly 35 years ago.

  4. Caroline says:

    Hi Deb,

Thanks for these leads. I come on here fairly regularly and have found this site to be extremely helpful in landing gigs and some longer term jobs! Thanks again!

    Caroline

  5. AprilMay says:

I love this site! I landed my two biggest clients here. THANK YOU!!

  6. DKM Marlink says:

That #6 content writer ad (Data Storage Writer) really rubbed me the wrong way! It says, “This will be an ongoing job if quality is high and your rates are low.”

What happened to paying people what they’re worth? I know it’s a bad economy, yadda yadda, but seriously, the old adage of “you get what you pay for” still applies, employers. You can’t get away with ripping me off on pay just because work’s harder to find right now. All you’re doing is shooting yourself in the foot when we go around warning people against working for you or paying for your services. (If you’re going to skimp when it comes to your employees, that doesn’t speak well for your work ethic.)

Sorry for the rant, guys. I’m just so sick of seeing ads that offer crap for pay because employers are taking advantage of the high local unemployment to overwork and underpay their employees.

  7. Dorothy says:

Loving seeing people report their successes. Maybe there’s hope for me yet!

  8. I’ve gotten a few jobs through this wonderful site–in early 2008, through a Craigslist ad HERE, I snagged a job writing snappy articles for a book series which lasted several months. Guess what? Last month the same publishers called and invited me to participate in another series they were launching. This company pays on time too!

  9. Juliet Farmer says:

Just an fyi that although I’m not sure if I got the link to the job via this site, I responded to an ad on Craigslist, and he turned out to be a scammer. He was looking for a Bay Area journalist to write about a Bay Area business, and he goes by at least three names: Will Townsend, Terry Brejla, and Alex Love
He told me he was hiring me to write the story for the Miami Herald.

  10. Jeff McQ says:

I think #1 merits some investigation. I found this opportunity listed a couple of weeks before in another place, and I submitted a test topic to their site as they requested, to see if they wanted me to write more. They never got back to me, so when I saw this job reposted, I went back to their site and did a search. Instead of my published topic, there was a distubingly *similar* topic with very similar content; my original topic is only visible to *me* when I sign in on their website (required in order to create a topic). In other words…the original topic is hidden, and the suspiciously similar topic (which was NOT on the site when I wrote mine) is public.

Without making a formal accusation…it looks as if these guys are using writers to develop content for their site and then subtly altering it without paying. I’ve written them demanding payment and an explanation; we’ll see. Just beware until they clarify their intentions.

    • Jeff McQ says:

Followup to my last comment…within an hour the webmaster responded to me, promised payment, and assured me that I had not been plagiarized. They claim to have received no less than four similar submissions from writers, only one of which they have actually published thus far, and gave me quotes from each of them. While I still have some concerns about the methods they are using to compile their site (simply because misunderstandings like this can so easily occur in the way they’re doing it)…their prompt response and reasonable explanation makes it appear for the moment that their intentions are above board. (At least I got their attention!) So while I’m not yet ready to endorse them…I’m lowering the flag of suspicion I raised earlier. Will wait and see.

  11. Meredith Martinez says:

Inquiry #98 from this list sent today. Over the previous 97 I have met people who expect me to supply them copy with perfect grammar and flawless logic for about a dollar an hour. I have answered ads whose creators sent in response the ordering information for their own e-books on how to become successful freelancers. I have seen ads written in such vague, clueless language that it’s obvious the posters have no idea what they want (so how am I to deliver it?), but responded anyway. Dealing with these folks is starting to make lawyers look like decent, intelligent people. Fortunately, not everyone can be a lawyer. Thanks to the Internet, now literally everyone thinks that can become a publisher.

  12. Kathy says:

The food blogging job looks fishy too me. No pun intended. Seems like they just want food photos for free.
