Ah. Friday. Some weeks it seems like it’ll never get here. It’s going to be an interesting weekend and week because of the impending holiday. I like to reflect during this time about the things I’m thankful for, but also for the things I’d like to be thankful for. For example, if I had my druthers, this blog network would be my 24/7 sole source of income. We’re close but not quite there yet. What are some of the things you hope you’re thankful for next year?

Some members of this community mentioned the front page doesn’t always update and they miss the leads. That’s my fault, actually. There’s a glitch so I have to update the homepage manually. However, I forget a lot. At the top of each page there are colored tabs leading to all the different blogs in this network. Click on them to be taken to each individual blogs homepage for updates. Thanks for your understanding while I work it all out.

New around the network:

Slim leads today.

What bothers me about being a writer is keeping the work coming in. I’ve lost writing jobs since clients had hired foreign writers and resulted in the client’s project not being done right. Does it bother some people when writers from other countries try to take gigs from the states and end up not doing the project right because their english is not proficient enough. I feel that this hurts me as a writer because it slows up my ability to make money. It’s also resulted in my writing gigs slowing down since some people are reluctant to hire someone after they hired another writer and they didnt do the project right. How do we as writers make ourselves more credible so that people are not so reluctant about hiring us after a bad experience and to prove ourselves to be working professionals who are committed to doing quality work.

Holy cats, I’m still working on leads – didn’t realize it was published. Well,I’ll leave this up so you can all chat among youselves…see any good movies lately? I hope to have leads up in about an hour (10:30 EST)

  5. Anne G. says:

I can answer the “good movies lately.” Now that Netflix’s Instant Watch movies work with the PS3, my brother loaned us his Roku box until Christmas comes. It’s dark here by 5:30 usually now, so we’ve been curling up as a family after dinner and watching the Roku box a lot.

Currently very addicted to the TV show Heroes. Never had watched it before because it conflicted with another show we watch. Now we’re playing catch up.

On the movie front, we just watched My Sister’s Keeper. I know Jodie based that story on a real situation, but very thought provoking. My son actually walked away because he was furious a parent could even consider having another child to provide organs, blood and bone marrow to your sick child. He then asked if I’d ever consider it and honestly, I don’t know about the organ deal, but I think I would for the benefit of the umbilical cord blood. Don’t think I could go further than that though.

  6. adrie says:

I personally am a bit of a Christmas nut and have been watching some of my faves already. Elf always gets a good belly laugh outta me as does A Christmas Story.

My favorite is It’s A Wonderful Life, with Christmas Carol (the Alistair Sim version)coming in close second. Those I hold off on watching until December though :P

Aside from that my copy writing by day and other ‘fun’ writing by night keeps me too busy for movies.

  7. Dorothy says:

Re: foreign writers: I have had two jobs recently revising work done by non-native-English writers. I’d rather get the job and do it right the first time instead of trying to fix it after the fact!

  8. Bob Hale says:

One of the best documentary television programs ran this week. “World War ll in High Definition” was sensational. Excellent writing! And, having just returned from Asia where I walked the Nagasaki bomb location and adjoining Peace Park, as well as taking in the landing sites of Okinawa, I found the television presentation a top notch history lesson. For those who choose NOT to view it, a grand historical lesson was missed!

P.S.: The lead in to this public comment section has an incorrect written expression. It should NOT be “…and,oh…” It should be, “…Oh,and…”. The latter would be the correct progression of thoughts. (OK, ok..picking nits, but this IS a writers’ hang-out! LOL)

  9. Kenna says:

    Thanks for the list.

Since we are chit-chatty — I bought myself a Droid this week. I am trying to figure out all the cool gizmos on it.

  10. Anne G. says:

Under General – #3 and #6 are both low paying.

#3 is $7 for 500 word articles or $2 for 200 word articles.

    #6 – $2 for 300 word articles, $3 for 400 words or $3.50 for 500 words.
