It’s a holiday here in the States, a day we honor civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. For many in our country, it’s a day to give back and perform community service. For others, it’s a day of reflection. Whether you’re working, relaxing, giving it back or paying it forward, I hope today is everything you wish for it to be.

Magazine Submissions, Guidelines and Markets

It’s been a about a week since I’ve been here. I’ve been busy writing and consulting. I am glad to be back. It feels good to apply for new jobs.
MLK deserves a celebration today. He is and was a great man who lead the fight against bigotry. We could all learn something from his speech “I Have a Dream…”. Bigotry is still in our culture and we must not forget to love one another, no matter race, education, social standing and ethnic.
Love to all!
I couldn’t agree with you more, Kenna. Dr. King’s holiday was a long time coming. I wish more businesses would observe.
I applied for two Contributing Writer positions over 8 weeks ago at About.com and haven’t heard back. Does anyone know how long it takes to hear from them? According to their system when I checked, my application is still active. Does this always take this long???
Jeanne, when I worked for About.com (as the Weblogs Guide) they contacted me within a week to tell me I was accepted into Prep (which is no job guarantee, by the way.) I know of others who were contacted after a couple of months. The first time I applied (for a different Guide gig) it was several weeks before they contacted me to tell me they chose more qualified candidates. So, it varies.
