All rested from the weekend? I love Mondays because I’m always raring to go. That doesn’t mean I was rather productive on the weekend too. Although I wasn’t planning to work, I managed to knock out some email, discuss a collaboration with another well known freelance writing blogger, and get a load or two of laundry in. Not huge amounts of work, but enough to keep life from getting too overwhelming.

Do you read the other blogs in this network? Which are your favorites?

Also, what do you want to learn about or discuss the most?

The McLean VA job pays 2 cents per page view or $25 flat if you don’t top 500 page views. From the look of the form, you submit the article directly, not bothering to apply.

    All rested from the weekend?

Um, yeah. All rested, thanks. I know it’s a bad day when it’s already light out when I wake up. :)

    Hi Deb,
I read everyone who blogs here! That doesn’t mean I read everything that’s posted, but I read something by everyone over the course of a month.
I come here to read leads every day, and if they haven’t been posted yet when I first come, I revisit the site until I find them. At least once a week I scan the other blogs to see what I’m interested in reading, and sometimes I comment.

Nice long list of leads, thank you!

    Thanks for the list!

I love reading Terrece’s blog (hope I’m spelling that correctly). Her mix of tips are always relevant and helpful. I may not leave comments, but always look forward to reading her advice.

Re the freelance travel job, not worth the effort based on the pay:

“Compensation and Exclusivity: We are launching in a tenuous economy so please understand we can’t negotiate on our compensation. We are only able to offer $25 for pieces between 750 and 1500 words. 6 – 8 unique pictures are required with each article submitted. Pictures will be compensated at $1 a piece. We require exclusivity on all articles for one year from the date of publishing and reserve the right to edit all articles. No negotiation. We are looking for long-term relationships; as we grow so will future compensation”

FYI–the $10-$15/article is for 3000-word articles. Don’t know if you have a cut-off for rate/word, but if you do, I’d imagine it’s well above that. That is a ridiculously long article for $15. It also says “I’ll accept $10 to $15 per article”. Are we paying the poster to get published in the “magazines”? That’s one I’ll stay far away from.

  10. Kristy says:

Thanks for the list! The “Uber Geek” lead’s URL isn’t working…

    Deb:

Thanks for the community manager job – sounds interesting. On #32, Sinai Marketing is interested in having 11 “top people” compete for the position by writing a press release for a site that’s under construction now. If they can’t decide based on the press release, the “competition” will move to phase two – writing an article. My understanding was that pay comes only if/when you win the position. May the best man win, but I’m not competing! Thanks but no thanks!

Another question, this time on Demand Studios. Has anyone ever successfully gotten their account removed?

I signed up with them a year ago, never did see an assignment and was always logging in and getting messages that there was no work matching my expertise. So I’ve been trying to find out what’s going on. I finally got an answer a few months back saying I hadn’t submitted my 1099 info, which I had, but they made me resubmit. I did and was told all was fine and that I could start working. Again, all I got was a message stating that they had no jobs matching my experience.

So last month, I tried again and was told that my status as a writer had been pulled due to plagiarism on work I submitted to their system. Which is funny since I never submitted any jobs with them because they never had any work for me. For writing samples, I only submitted links to articles I’d written that have my byline. So at that point, I told them to delete my account.

I got another answer saying they cannot delete an account from their system. They told me to change my tax ID number/SS number to all zeros and submit that. I did that and the system won’t accept it saying it’s an invalid number.

I’m sick of their run around and can’t imagine that people haven’t successfully gotten their account removed. If anyone knows how, I’d love to know!

FYI-If you live in the US (or Canada) the FT Community Mgr gig (#14) is likely NOT a gig for you unless you want to start your FT day in the 11pm (PST) through to 2am ish range (EST). Ad states the following: “… core hours are based around BST (London) time. Please note that a poor overlap on these core hours could prove to be unworkable.” London time is 6 hrs ahead of EST through to 9 ahead of PST.

  14. Chris Mc says:

Oops. Was 1 hr off on time…London *5* hrs ahead of EST, etc….
