@SaraE – thanks! I’ll definitely try that. I found a site that said mineral oil, but since they are always cleaning each other, I didn’t want to have them ingesting that! Olive oil I wouldn’t mind them eating!

I come mostly for the leads and then read or skim thru blog posts if I have the time (I haven’t had an internet connection at home for a good while so time is of the essence when I’m at an internet cafe).

I do find the new design slightly confusing but it’s nothing I can’t get used to in time.

@AnnG – I don’t know if you’re still looking for a home remedy to treat your cat’s ear mites, but if you are, try a couple of drops of corn or olive oil. I’ve used it on my cats, and it works pretty well. Rub the outside of his ears afterward, and clean the inside gently with a q-tip after about 24 hours. It won’t kill all the mites, or possibly the next generation that are still safe in their eggs, but it will offer some relief. I hope this helps.

I’m late to the game in responding to this post as I wasn’t online much yesterday.

To answer your question Deb ~ I, for one, love the new format. To be honest though, I didn’t initially. But after getting used to it, I find it much easier to navigate. I come primarily for the job leads, but I also check several times a day to see what else has been posted. Now, instead of scrolling through each post, I can check the portal and see what’s new, and click anything that catches my eye.

I appreciate all your hard work, Deb, Jodee and everyone!

Deb & Jodee – I have been vising FWJs for a long time now, since I started freelancing 2-3 years ago. I have landed great gigs that were listed here and always have appreciated the effort you both put into your lists and the site. I also really enjoyed the cover letter series you did a while back. I haven’t been freelancing much lately (since baby #3 arrived!), but I like the new format and will certainly be checking out the other sites. I’m always up for learning something new! Wile I dig the site and what you do here, the new design is completely counterintuitive and goes against every browsing design rule. The front page is just a mess of different sized fonts, and the sidebar links to ‘hot leads’ from June. Keep in mind that the average browser will spend about 20 seconds on a page looking for something relevant before they hit the back button – and this just doesn’t do it.

This isn’t familiarity talking – it’s years of designing webpages.

The content is still great, but whoever has re-organized things doesn’t really grasp the idea of designing for this purpose.

I quite enjoy a lot of the content firstly and then the leads a close second (am I the only one?) I’m in the UK and so a lot of the leads really aren’t worth my while, although Jodee and I have had many a conversation about this.

@ Deb – give it time to settle, say a month, and then see what folk are saying. People don’t change =)
