Don’t forget that there are writers of various skill levels on this board, so some need a journeyman level gig and salary. In addition, you will always have those who only write part time, just for fun. In either event, there is still a need for $10 jobs, which is why people still post them and why others still apply for them.

Well thanks for the hopeful words from everyone. I may have just been at this too long, it’s been many years since I took $25 to write an article…think I need to think in terms of networking more than trolling these kind of job boards.

Deb & Jodee, I just wanted to say thanks again for all your hard work and posting gigs everyday!

The other day, I applied for 5 different jobs and landed a blogging gig at $25 per 400-words, and it’s fairly steady work. Normally, I work for higher pay but it really does seem like things are getting bad out there. This is right at the minimum of my accepted hourly rate, so I’m happy.

This is, honestly, the first time I’ve gotten a job through your site, and I’m very happy. (I don’t check the ads everyday and I certainly don’t apply like crazy!) So this is maybe the 15th job I’ve applied for and I got it, so I’m thrilled! Thanks again!

@Carol, There are plenty of writing gigs out there that pay well beyound $10.00. You will find them.

Just a heads up on the eHow post for non-Americans – the program is only available for those living in the US (but they don’t let you know that until you’ve registered on their website).

Re: Pop-up ads.

Just a warning. Hopefully everyone has virus protection! I have pop-up blockers installed with both IE and Firefox and some of the pop-ups are getting through anyway despite the fact that I have Freelancewritinggigs.com on the “never allow pop-ups from this site” list.

One of them today that opens regardless of my settings contains a trojan virus. It was a pop-up for some financial site and my virus software automatically closed out of this site because there was a trojan in the pop-up ad.

I know there are still some people out there who don’t use virus software because of the expense. Avast and AVG are free. Make sure you have updated virus protection, especially with some of these pop-ups.

Ah thanks a ton Deb.. Was hoping you’d post some leads today!
The Blog/Columnist job lead for ‘What Is Going On’ I’ve actually received some replies from.. They pay $5 for a daily 400 word minimum news post which also requires plugging your story on their forums and replying to thread posts.
Just letting everyone know in case this isn’t up their alley.

@Carol -
Don’t be discouraged by the ads that don’t say exactly what they will pay – not all of them are in the $10 category. There are several here with potential … and I find something to apply for most days, even though $10 is below my standard too.
This is a great board! Don’t go away – there’s much to learn here.

@Carol Tice- I found a great opportunity on this blog that was at 15 cents a word – for a 500 word post that’s $75. Not bad! I also started writing for another site for $20 a post. That’s pretty meager, IMO, *but* I am hoping to pitch a rate increase within the next couple of days. I have posted 8 or 10 posts for the second one, so I think I have something to bargain with now Keep looking there are some really good opportunities available right now!

@Deb – Maybe you could talk about asking for a “raise” or rate increase. Do you have any tips?
