Good morning FWJ Friends! I’ve got leads for marketing writers, dog experts, medical writers, women’s boardsport writers, math editors, copy writers and real estate writers for your consideration this morning. Some blogging jobs and several internships are also on the list.

I try to share positive feedback when we get it here at FWJ and I have some for you this morning. A client who recently posted an ad here was kind enough to write in to share how impressed he was by the caliber of applicants he gets from this site and that it can be difficult to choose just one applicant for the gig because of it. So kudos to all of you guys!

That “pretty awkward” job is for a kind of odd blog. Intriguing, but no info on pay and there are only about 4 posts, no “about this blog” or anything else.

  2. Erika says:

Some of these employers are really light on the descriptions. The medical writer just says “articles needed, will pay per article” or something like that. How are we supposed to makea decent cover letter or know if we’re wasting our time? I’d love to write articles on health topics, but I’m not a medically trained person and I don’t want to write for peanuts.

Do some employers realize how hard they make it for us? Sorry about the rant, I’m just surprised at how much some employers expect us to guess and assume.

Jodee, all that being said by me earlier, I did find a really good one to apply to. Theye didn’t share their “hourly rate”, but gave a really good description of their expectations. It seems to possibly match up with some other current work I do, so I’m crossing my fingers!!

And I decided that even though it is a non-profit organization, that doesn’t mean I need to also make my rate “non-profit”. I was open for rate discussion, but my writing will hopefully speak to the value of my rate in their eyes.

They stated they are looking for highly qualified writers, and I believe I am one. I wouldn’t have had the confidence to put such a “high quality ” rate this time last year, but I know my time is worth it. Thanks to you and Deb for encouraging us to not be afraid to price ourselves for what we are worth.

@Erika – I have to agree with you. I applied to one posting a while back finally received a response. Only when the person started mentioning what she needed written, none of it related to her post. The post was about food and recipes and she asked if I watched reality shows.

What happened to the freelance travel writing/editing job that was briefly posted up above this one? I applied for it, and now it’s gone – was it a scam? Curious.
Thanks for all the leads Jodee! This is the first day I haven’t seen anything to apply for, but that’s still a pretty good average.

  6. Jodee says:

@ Amy: You guys did it again….the client received a lot of applications in a short time and asked me to take the ad down. I don’t have any reason to think it was a scam at all.

  7. amy says:

Thanks Jodee – maybe I squeaked in under the wire then! I was PERFECT for that one! :)

  8. Krista says:

Woo hoo! I got a response from the freelance travel writing job posted earlier. They’re going to bring me on board. It sounds like a great job. Thanks for posting Jodee.

  9. Erika says:

@Krista – WOW, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a job get posted and taken so quickly. Like greased lightening. Congrats!

  10. Jennifer says:

    That is terrific!

  11. Krista says:

@Erika – Well, I think they’re hiring a bunch of people because they need hundreds of essays written over the next three weeks (if I remember correctly). Each writer is only being assigned 25, so anyone else that applied…keep your fingers crossed.

  12. Erika says:

That’s right, I didn’t see it up there for long but I do remember they were in some kind of big hurry. I’m sure your happy to get started right away.

  13. Erika says:

Sorry “you’re” happy to get started right away. Don’t forget to spell check as you write furiously! ;)

  14. Erica R. says:

I got a job that was posted yesterday, thanks to Jodee listing it! I already have my first assignment, yay!

  15. Kenna says:

It’s great to hear about writers getting gigs from here. Awesome!!!!

  16. amy says:

I’m also on board with that travel writing gig – woo hoo! Thanks for posting it!

  17. I just sold my first piece on a lead for this site. Thanks a lot!

It will be on DogOilPress.com Saturday, if anyone is interested.

  18. Mitch says:

Not to be nosey, but is that travel writing gig with trazzler.com?

  19. Krista says:

@ Mitch – It is with Thomas Riggs & Company.

  20. Abby says:

Just a word of caution to anyone catching up on these leads from yesterday. I was given an assignment for the “Dog Experts” ad. The gentleman seemed very nice and was very responsive to my e-mails asking for clarification. He responded to everything within a few minutes of me sending it. Now that I have sent the completed guide, I have not heard back from him once. I know that doesn’t definitely mean I’ve been ripped off (he could be in a meeting, taking a sick day, etc.), but I have a bad feeling that I am not going to see any money for the assignment.

  21. Abby says:

Ok, my feeling was wrong. I have been paid. I’m sorry I jumped to conclusions; I have been burned a lot in the past and get nervous when a client has responded promptly right up until the point when I send in the completed work!

  22. Jodee says:

@ Abby: Glad to hear you got paid. It can be nerve-wracking waiting to get paid.

@ Krista: I applied for the Thomas Riggs & Company job after it was posted and I’ve been hired as an editor. Really looking forward to it. :D
