They also have ads showing up in Chitika, Adsense, etc., meaning you may see ads thinking your favorite bloggers support them (because those ads are contextual and not hand-picked), when in fact they do not. Also, I'm puzzled that someone like you - whom I would assume to be very net savvy - was unaware that this sort of thing went on; that's one of the reasons people are encouraged to buy variants on their domain names.
