Freelance Writing Jobs for Tuesday, October 27, 2009

So a few days into the poll and the FWJ community has made it clear: Keep the job list focused on jobs paying above $10. You speak, and I listen! However, I have spent some time lately speaking with the people who work for or run many of the content sites we consider low paying. A couple of them have been misrepresented in certain online “investigations.” Many of the low paying jobs are still what we consider legit, they just don’t pay a lot of money. So in order to give them fair representation (and by that I mean not handpicking emails from disgruntled writers to post here), I’m going to be bringing interviews from the folks behind many of these sites so we can learn who they are, how they’re run, what they really pay and why they’re different from all the others. Stay tuned for that.

I’m very excited about what’s coming up in the next few weeks at FWJ. We have a grant writing series going, a series on taxes (including for UK freelancers) beginning next week, an upcoming look on technical writing and more.  I think (I hope) you’ll find it all helpful.

Freelance Writing Jobs for October 21, 2009

Lordy, it was chilly this morning. After spending the past week in Las Vegas, the frost on the pumpkin was a rude awakening. I’m not a cold weather person, but this time of the year is so pretty. Please excuse the brief kumbaya, but I’m feeling especially blessed today. It’s a beautiful day, the world outside my window is alive with color, I’m self sufficient, and I have an amazing support group.

I have a couple of announcements to make this morning and I feel so good about bringing them to you. The first is about me giving back, and the other is about a company giving back to their writers.

• Between now and Thanksgiving, any time someone ReTweets a blog post from FWJ, I’ll donate a nickel to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey. I know it’s not a lot, but I’m willing to give up any profit I earn for the next month or so if it means one or two families will receive a hot meal.
• Also, Demand Studios will soon be offering affordable healthcare to its writers. I’ve known about this for a little while and it was all I could do not to announce the news. I hope this will help some of you who have been concerned about finding affordable healthcare.

It’s the last day of the month so I imagine many of you are fulfilling all your end of the month quotas and obligations. After being away for much of the last week I thought I might stay up late working last night. I changed my mind and decided to unplug early – before dinner, even. No regrets. I may be up until 3:00 a.m. tonight but the family time and relaxation was so worth it. I even slept through my alarm this morning,  but I don’t recommend that.
