Good morning. I had forgotten how relaxing I find it to look for leads while sipping my first cup of coffee. The house is quiet, the coffee is strong and hot, and I get a good look at the types of jobs that are out there while weighing the best options for the FWJ community. Mind you the cats and dog are sitting around me waiting to be fed, and the alarm clocks are about to rouse my family any minute now, but the first bit of the hunt is bliss. I hope your day is as calm and peaceful as I’m feeling right now.

Thanks Deb for the leads.
Thanks Deb.
As always, thanks for the leads!
Thanks for the leads, been coming to this blog for a couple years and have received dozens of gigs and hundreds of offers. Never posted comments on here before (except one comment deleted within minutes for criticizing lovetoknow for paying writers only 2-3 cents per word) but I was just curious whether anyone is currently working on that 20 hours per week $10 an hour job writing book summaries listed on here a couple months ago? I was wondering whether anyone found it tedious or worth it writing 30 summaries (and entries) per week for such low pay? Thanks from Cabo.
I had one job writing book summaries a few months ago, not sure if it was the same one you’re talking about though. For me, it was a flat rate plus a $150 bonus for summaries making it into their magazine, both with a byline.
If that is the one, I still have mixed feelings about it. First, after one job, they said they would contact the writers when the next job appeared. No one that I’ve spoken to ever heard from them again. The editors told me the work I did was fantastic, so I don’t think it was my organization, but who knows.
The other thing was that you could not use your own wording. Unlike most jobs, you had to quote content directly from the book using their fill-in grid. Basically, it was taking the book and condensing it to a couple pages capturing only the key ideas in each chapter.
A belated thanks, Deb. I’ve gotten several gigs from your wonderful list.
I thought I’d post an update to the Demand Studios post of mine from a day or so ago. I received an apology letter from the editoral staff for flagging my work as plagiarized. It seems they have instituted a “plagiarism checker” for all work that is ridiculously tedious, as this editor put it, because there has been quite a lot of plagiarism on the eHow site, according to her. She says not to panic if you get one of these letters. Just rebut it as per the instructions and they will get back to you. Aside from that scare, they’ve been very congenial about my first work. Just thought I’d pass this along in case anybody else has this experience.
Thanks guys – glad you’re liking the lists. Also, Kathy, glad the Demand Studios thing is working out. I hate all the plagiarism and plagiarism checkers. I wish it didn’t have to be this way.
Hi, Matthew,
Are you talking about the PA job? If so, once I received numerous contracts detailing the amount of work required and the notice that writers receive no credit for submitted work, I declined.
Hi Deb,
Just i was googling and then i have reached here! i would like to know your e mail id.All the best!
I thought I would stick up for eHow and let you know that I worked for eHow. It’s hard to believe that eHow plagiarised their work. They had a great system for checking such fallacies.
It never came up as an issue with my work. I was able to pump out quite a bit of articles, pay was decent for the amount of time I spent on each article.
Because I know they used a very dedicated system for checking plagiarism, I just can’t believe what the editor told Kathy — nothing personal — something is amiss.
Yes Riley, I believe it is the same PA job you mention (Northeast Editing). I can understand why you declined, since it is certainly a significant amount of entering information into their system–much more time and effort than merely writing the book summaries themselves. I was just curious if anyone is still currently working on this job and if they pay promptly $200 per week, and if it gets easier and more efficient with the number of entries submitted over time? Thanks for the advice; and thanks again for the wonderful leads on this site.
I was on Demand Studiows for a few months and they never had anything in my field(s) I remotely qualified for. The articles they did have were questionably legal or would have required a ridiculous amount of research to make a half-way decent article. A few years ago, I worked for another article mill type of place and their ‘plagerism checker’ was constantly flagging me. I got fed up and finally quit.
As an aside, I applied for the freelance book writer, #2 on the list, and the reply I got back looks to be from the same type of article mill employers. Just, FYI.
