Leads will be along a little later.
As you know I took a few days off to attend SXSW. Normally under these circumstances I’d have Jodee on board to take care of leads, but I thought I would try a little experiment. What would happen if the members of this community were left to their own devices for a little while? What would happen if you didn’t have your daily leads for a few days. Would you be upset at not receiving your free service? Would you find your own jobs? Would you postpone the job hunt until I return.
Judging by some of the comments here and 57 pieces of hate mail, it seems that many people would much rather have the convenience of having everything in front of them, than to look for work on their own. I get that. Afterall, it’s why I do what I do. I just feel it’s interesting to see how folks respond when they’re removed fromt their routine.
As you know, FWJ is a free service. In fact, I had a conversation with a marketing expert over the weekend who thought I should charge for this. I thought about it plenty of times but I won’t do it for several reasons:
- I made a promise to the FWJ community several years ago that this would always be a free resource.
- The FWJ community doesn’t really support this blog when money is concerned. Most won’t buy affiliate products or my ebooks, donate or support advertising in any way. I doubt the majority of folks here would pay money to receive leads every day when they can find the same leads for free on their own.
- There are certain ads that are exclusive to FWJ. I thought about charging a monthly fee to receive these ads. However, again, this community doesn’t monetarily support FWJ and I just don’t think it would work.
- I made a promise to the FWJ community several years ago that this would always be a free site.
I would like to thank everyone who offered support and ideas for keeping FWJ going while I visit conferences or have a life. (A special shout out to “Eugene” So sorry I couldn’t get off my fat butt to bring you leads. I hope this week is a more productive one for you!”). This was an interesting experience, for sure.
I’d like to know what you did to find work in my absence. What sites did you visit? Did you think outside the box or do a little cold calling?
