Entertainment Weekly is seeking a contract SEO writer to support its digital SEO/streaming team. This role focuses on pitching and writing timely, search-driven content tied to the entertainment and celebrity news cycle, with an emphasis on writing explainers tied to TV, movies and celebrity news.
The ideal candidate is a fast, reliable writer who can produce 3-5 clean, engaging articles per day without sacrificing quality or accuracy. We’re looking for someone who is deeply plugged into pop culture and entertainment, and regularly watches new and trending streaming content.
40 hours a week
Start date: 4/20/2026
End date: 3 months with potential to extend
Hourly Rate: $25-28
Location: Remote – US
Assignment Responsibilities:
- Write 3-5 timely, search-driven stories per day across trending topics in TV, film, and celebrity news
- Proactively monitor the news cycle and pitch relevant, high-impact story ideas
- Quickly get up to speed on unfamiliar shows, movies, and public figures, and translate that knowledge into clear, engaging content
- Use analytics and performance data to inform coverage decisions and optimize content strategy
Skills/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, English, or a related field — or equivalent experience
- 2–3 years of experience writing for a celebrity news outlet or within the entertainment media space
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with strong news judgment and a commitment to accuracy and journalistic standards
- Ability to move quickly on breaking news while identifying high-impact SEO and evergreen angles
- Solid understanding of SEO best practices and performance metrics
- Deep knowledge of entertainment, TV/film, and pop culture
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
