Goodbye, Friends

Today is the day I’m handing over the keys to the kingdom to Splashpress Media. In case you weren’t aware of this, I sold Freelance Writing Jobs and today is the last day under my ownership. I’ve had 30 days to think about this transaction and while I still believe it’s for the best, it’s also strange and sad knowing that FWJ will no longer be mine.

I wrote this post in my head about twelve times in the past few days but it’s not coming out like I intended.

I don’t want to get all melancholy, but I do want to tell you that this blog and community was my life for five years and it means so much to me. You all do. I met so many wonderful people and learned more than I can tell you here. I’m grateful for the support of the freelance writing community.

I don’t want to turn this into some sad, prolonged Oprah moment, so I’ll  leave you with one last thought:

You are responsible for you. Only you know the choices that work best for you and your situation. Don’t be the person a blogger wants you to be. Be the person you want to be. Be happy.

With gratitude,

Deborah Ng

    Good Luck Deb,

See you at Kommein. You built something very amazing here, something to be very proud of. I have a strong feeling it is only the beginning for you. The sky is the limit.

Congratulations to you for building such an informative site that means so much to so many! And good luck to you in all of your future projects.

You know, I was just about to add my weekly post when this popped up.

Now, I’ve decided to risk the ire of the new head honchos by delaying its publication until tomorrow. I don’t wanna bump you out of the top spot on the list.

Besides, this is the post everyone is going to want to read and comment on. Why try to compete with that, right? 🙂

You had a helluva run with this. Congratulations. Kommein and whatever else comes next will undoubtedly rock, too.

    Be happy. Damn good advice!

Excellent advice! I’m sorry to see you leave FWJ, but I’ll keep up with you elsewhere! I hope you enjoy moving on to even cooler things. 🙂

Sad I only discovered FWJ during the autumn of the Ng reign. I’ve been freelance and loose since May this year and the site has offered some very useful advice as well as clients. Best wishes for the future, Deb and I look forward to your next venture.

Wow, that’s so amazing to hear that you built something like this that has become big enough to be sold off. I wish you well in your next endeavor. This website is awesome and you should be very proud of the work you did here.

Kudos (and condolences, I guess) for selling FWJ and moving onward. I’ve really enjoyed reading your posts. While we live in wacky times— there will always be a need for great writers. You’ve shown that you are one and FWJ has been a strong beacon for encouragement to other freelancers riding the rollercoaster of life and work as chief, cook, bottlewasher, writer, editor, publisher. Keep the great posts coming at Kommein.

You’ve been an inspiration to us all Deb, in so many ways. I won’t say good luck because for one thing, you don’t need it. You’ll do great at whatever you choose to do. But for another, I believe we make our own luck through hard work, being open to the world, and pushing our limits.

I hope to stay in touch.
