The world of writing can be a vicious one. Writers have editors to make sure their work is polished, but the relationship between writer and editor is not always known to be all warm and cozy.

Then there are the critics. They either love you or tear you to pieces.

But a whole new story evolves when writers take down other writers.

It doesn’t sound fun at all if you are the writer at the receiving end, but this infographic puts together some famous writers’ insults targeted at their peers. They may or may not be warranted, but the insults give you something to think about. They may even prod you to open up a book or two.

    There’s also a well-known feud here in Portugal. José Saramago, the 1998 Nobel Prize in Literature winner, has always been the arch-nemesis of another Portuguese writer, António Lobo Antunes (who is an eternal candidate to that award).
