The People team is seeking a fact-checker to conduct thorough research on all stories published in the weekly magazine. You will confirm the reliability of source material and evaluate the context in which facts are presented in each assigned story.

Assignment Responsibilities:
As a fact-checker, you will be a part of a 7-person team whose primary responsibility is fact-checking a weekly magazine. We are looking for someone who can be available until late hours on Mondays, as well as regular hours on Thursdays and Fridays, totaling three days per week. Hours are irregular but consistent. Story subjects include crime, music, tv, human interest, beauty, style and more. This position must work closely with editors, writers, copy desk, photo department, design department and legal teams, in addition to working with the fact-checking team. This job requires the ability to review copy with writers and editors efficiently while coordinating changes with the production and art departments. The fact-checker must also collaborate with the Research Editor and legal team to ensure legal compliance and fact verification before the magazine goes to press. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, reliable, communicative, and is committed to the journalistic integrity of the brand. Your responsibility is to the magazine, efficiently checking through stories with total accuracy.
Skills/Experience:
The ideal candidate is an experienced fact-checker with a history of working with well-recognized entertainment media outlets.

3+ years of fact-checking experience with a national consumer magazine

A broad range of interests that mirror the scope of the magazine with a particular editorial background in one or more of the following verticals: entertainment, human interest, sports, royals, politics, health, crime.

In depth knowledge of proven outside sources; up to date on current events and news trends

Ability to work well with editors and writers

Computer proficiency including MAC; knowledge of Adobe InCopy and Google Docs

Superb editorial skills, including demonstrated experience line editing for content improvements, grammar, and AP style

Excellent editorial judgment

Available consistently for between 25 to 35 hours per week.

Superior organizational skills with a keen attention to detail
