Us Weekly is looking for a detail-oriented News Editor with a deep and ever-expanding knowledge of pop culture and at least five years of experience in celebrity reporting.

Us Weekly is a multiplatform brand known as a priority destination and trusted source for breaking entertainment news and providing lifestyle content through the lens of celebrity. Access, authenticity, and energy are defining aspects of the Us Weekly brand and important qualities uniting our global newsroom. We’re looking for a news editor to join our team who has just as much curiosity about celebrities and enthusiasm for entertainment as we and our readers do.

This position will require a remote-based home office in the cities of New York, NY or Los Angeles, CA

In this role, you will need to:

• Be able to write your own stories and be comfortable switching from interviewing talent for entertainment-focused features to covering controversial breaking news stories
• Think about audience first and always, with a commitment to tactics that grow readership
• Oversee standalone news investigations that can lead to thoughtfully produced print stories or high-traffic digital stories
• Balance working on news reporting efforts for breaking news and longer lead news stories
• Handle publicist and attorney outreach for news stories
• Work well in a team environment.
• Be available to cover red carpets when necessary, and be comfortable potentially representing the brand on camera

McClatchy Media’s Editorial leaders are expected to seek out and embrace the ethical use of artificial intelligence and other automation to enhance and elevate our work, create supplemental content, and build efficiencies that free our journalists to focus on high-quality content production.

Empowering staff to learn and employ audience-focused approaches to journalism is key to success in this role, as is using and championing AI in ways that build trust in its capabilities.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is between $85,000 and $125,000 per year. Individual base pay may vary within that range depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, department equity and relevant education.

• A trusted network of entertainment sources and can bring in source reporting through this network, as well as a constant flow of story ideas
• A great relationship with the Hollywood community, with significant experience booking talent for digital and print stories
• Strong writing and editing skills, excellent news judgment and a demonstrated ability to “see the story” that is going to matter to readers
• Unwavering commitment to accurate, ethical journalism
• Ability to work collaboratively to aggressively tackle stories, as well as think of creative solutions when encountering hurdles along the way
• A track record for innovation, learning, and using new skills and technologies, especially AI
• Comfort with a job that will be demanding, fast-paced, and constantly evolving
• Experience reaching public officials and authorities, obtaining public records and business reports

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate should meet many, though not necessarily all, of the following requirements:

• College degree or equivalent work experience
• 5 years of celebrity reporting experience. (minimum years of experience)
