Job Description

TECHNICAL EDITOR

We’re looking to bring on a technical editor (or a copyeditor who is familiar with technical content) to edit all types of curriculum materials across our programs. You’ll do the bulk of your work in a content management system, not in word-processing docs, and you’ll be working with anything from long-form explanations to assessment instructions to rubrics to slide decks. Must be a quick learner with strong editorial instincts, and comfort working with complex, highly specialized content is a must.

Responsibilities:

  • Copyedit, proofread, and polish a variety of curriculum materials for educational programs in tech and tech-adjacent fields
  • Provide very light developmental or content editing support as needed to clarify text, ensure the language is accessible, and improve the narrative flow
  • Quickly understand and consistently apply the conventions in our house style guide
  • Help perform content production tasks and facilitate the migration of content, both written and visual, between our platforms and tools
  • Report and resolve discrepancies where documentation is incomplete or unavailable
  • Working in and navigate our ecosystem of project management and curriculum development tools as well as our production workflows; provide coordination support
  • Build assessment questions in our auto-grading, curriculum-building, and rubric tools
  • Provide quality assurance support, which includes a comprehensive review of how content is rendered within the student learning environment(s) to ensure all components of the curriculum behave as expected
  • Occasionally format code scripts or work with HTML, Markdown, or another programming language

Requirements:

  • 3+ years’ editing experience
  • Familiarity and comfort engaging with technical skills and concepts
  • Ability to meet project deadlines
  • Ability to collaborate across functions

Preferred:

  • Experience with technical or scientific editing
  • Experience formatting code scripts or working with HTML, Markdown, or another programming language
  • Experience working with a version control tool or content management system
  • Experience doing quality assurance or providing quality assurance support
  • Experience writing or editing content in any of the following fields: data analytics, data science, UX/UI, product management, project management, engineering, computer science, web design, web or software development
  • Experience working with project management software, like Jira
  • Experience writing or editing curricula, trainings, e-learning content, or instructional design materials
